Now here's a unique transport, made to carry one specific machine as cargo:

Today I went down to Eindhoven Airbase in the south of the Netherlands (aka Holland) - to witness a truely unique visitor depart!
I believe this must be the first ever visit of an E-4B to the Netherlands, I can't recall ever hearing about one visiting before. (Usually they go to the UK etc).

The E-4B arrived under very dark skies last week - dark grey rainclouds and no sunlight. But thankfully the weather improved greatly and at 19:15 PM local time, this beautiful machine took to the skies again. And nearly using all available runway length too!

This is the first military aircraft I shot with my new digital setup - and what a bird to start with! I've seen a few E-4Bs over the last 15 years but this is the first time I  was actually able and allowed to photograph one!  Cheesy

Nice indeed to start with for a digital camera.  Afro

Thought of going over myself, but its a 2hour drive and weather forcast didn't look too good. Now I see what I've missed.  Sad

Although torturing was abandonned from law long ago, sometimes it should be re-introduced to make the Meteo guys a bit more accurate......

Well I was in Alphen a/d Rijn that morning and the weather turned really crap. Dark clouds, no light at all... At 15:30 I decided to drive down to Eindhoven regardless of the weather. Rumour was that the E-4B was scheduled to depart around 18:00 so I thought I'd give it a try anyway. If it would have been anything less than an E-4B, I would have stayed home.

But as soon as I got south of Utrecht, the clouds vanished and there was sunshine all over!! And HOT!!

Just FYI, there's a great article on the E-4A/B Program in the UK mag 'Combat Aircraft' (vol 6, no. 1)...should be on store shelves soon here in the States.

The article is really easy to find because it comes just before my photo story on the FJ-4B Fury and another story on the ISAP seminar.

Ok, that was a really bad plug attempt.... Undecided

757's are so beautiful.  Especially if you've ever had the chance to stand under the nose and look down its sleek, slender body, er, fuselage...it's like you're standing under a huge, majestic eagle.  Ok, so maybe I'm a little weird.  Huh

To transport the Emperor and other VIP's, this JASDF Boeing is a regular visitor of European airports. Here seen last April at Schiphol-Amsterdam.
