For anyone that has been to a red flag, generally what time is the media on the field?  Just looking at flight options.

IIRC, the muster time for winter flags is usually around 0930 or 1000?  The first launches will be ~1030, and everyone will be back on the ground before 2 PM.

Any idea where the Swedes are doing their familiarization work at prior to this Flag?  (If they're even doing it).

Hi All,

I really want to go for my first Red Flag.
January 21st is Monday and beginning of the exercise. Are they going to take off on Monday around 9am and come back by 2pm?
How about the light for photography?
Can I expect any arrivals on Saturday and Sunday?
My main goals would be E-3s, B-2s and B-52s. What are my chances of catching them on Saturday, Sunday and Monday?

Sorry for all the questions. But I've never shot at Nellis before. I've been there earlier this year to scout spotting location by the Speedway race track, but unfortunately nothing has landed to give me idea of distance and light.

Thanks!

I don't know about Saturday and Sunday but on Monday you should see all of what you're looking for.

almost everything will show up Friday, the foriegners maybe before. could be some stragglers over the weekend, but probably not many

no B-2s are scheduled for this flag, so that's a 0% on any day. 1 E-3, 2 B-1s, and 2 B-52s should fly every mission (Monday-Friday only are missions, no weekends). foriegners will probably fly that weekend to orientate. (E-3s are one of the types that have been known to straggle in on Sundays)

Thanks for the answers. I have one more question. If the light is poor in the morning (facing SE), is there any location on the east side of the runway for some decent shots?

Thanks,

I just received approval to attend the Red Flag Media Day on Jan 23 and have a few questions for the experts. This is my first Red Flag exercise. What lens lengths are most practical for shooting from where they allow media? I have long lenses (400/600mm) but these may be too long for how close we'll be. Also, does anyone have experience (good or bad) with shipping pro photography gear to Vegas? I am flying in from Florida and want to minimize the hassle of trying to travel with heavy gear and lots of lenses. Thanks in advance for any tips you can share.

Thanks,
Charlie

Can't wait for RF 13-2 Smiley
Thanks Keith for the tips regarding Media Day. I've got nice letter from publisher etc. but unfortunately due to scheduling conflict I wont be able to attend Media Day on the 23rd Sad
What a bummer.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to first day of RF.
I've got couple of questions. What is the preferred runway for arrivals? If they are using 03s, will they go for R or L side? Same thing for 21s.
Next question. What are the frequencies for RF?

Thanks,
Rafal
