Photo tour is a go:  http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/event-information/photo-tour
I am in.  Should be interesting.
Photo tour is Thursday thru Sunday.(no Monday)
Normally the Thunderbirds would be a bit concerned about people in the middle of the "box", but we'll have to wait and see what the final decision is.  Don't forget hearing protection, sunscreen, a shade hat, and a wide angle lens.(there's a story about that)
If I bring my "shaded" chair, please let me use it for at least an hour this year.   Boo Hoo

Since some of our members fly...

Come Fly-In to Sacramento

The California Capital Airshow has something NEW to offer this year and pilots are excited! For the very first time, a limited number of general aviation pilots will have access to Fly-In privileges during non-waivered airspace for the day or for the weekend – the 2012 CCA Inaugural Fly-In!

The first 100 pilots to register will be approved for access. What do you need to do to be included?

•    Complete the PPR form found on the Fly-In page of CCA website
•    Purchase your admission ticket, and upon approval you will be notified of arrival procedures and frequencies.
•    Book accommodations if you wish to stay overnight (tickets included in hotel packages)

Approval will be first come first serve. There is no landing fee during the show weekend; simply purchase a ticket like any other airshow attendee, you will then be greeted upon arrival, parked in a secure area near (but outside) the display ramp, and escorted inside the gates. Pilot access to and from your aircraft is permitted with an authorized Fly-In team member/escort only.

Approved 2012 CCA Inaugural Fly-In pilots will also receive credentials that not only allow them access to the Airshow, but admission to a prime viewing tent for Fly-In guests only – located near Airshow Center and convenient concessions. The ‘Shell Pavilion’ tent is a gift to pilots from our partners at McClellan Jet Services – a Shell Aviation FBO, Ramos Oil, and AeroShell Lubricants.
Don’t miss the show - register today!

Details, form, ticket information and hotel packages can be found by visiting: http://www.californiacapitalairshow.com/event-information/fly-in-information

To register, submit the information form via one of the following options:
•    Scan and email the registration form to executivedirector@californiacapitalairshow.com
•    Fax to (916) 875-7078
•    Mail to: 3745 Whitehead Street ? Mather, CA 95655
Questions?  Please call Airshow Headquarters at (916) 876-7568.

Any updates on performers? Pretty light this year. Website has a few performers listed. Also, no news yet on statics yet either. Thanks...

Beale is planning to have a U-2, T-38, and MC-12 on static display.
I expect you will see the U-2 fly at least one of the two days, and the T-38's fly both days.

Ok, so I live around the corner from Mather and I have always managed to find a decent spot outside of the base to shoot.  Last year I completely missed it.  Are there still some spots to shoot from outside on Thursday/Friday?  I guess I'm talking about the spots east on Mather.

What about getting one day of the Tour, say Saturday, is the area to shoot that much better than buying a reg ticket?

Sorry if this is way out of line, not trying to undermine the photo tour, just looking to save a few bucks after this summer.

I'll be there early tomorrow to catch the U-2 when it lands... around 1015.
And we will be flying the U-2 on both Sat and Sun... around 1325 both days, right after the T-38 formation.

It will be a great show.
