The new season at the Shuttleworth Collection at Old warden is shaping up nicely
For those who havent visited yet, Old Warden is an amazing venue that provides a real Garden Party atmosphere with a curves display line providing some excellent displays.

More details of this years events available here http://www.shuttleworth.org/main/index.htm

Do the shows have any RAF support?

They have had a Harrier land there in the past and quite often get a Flypast and even a display from the BBMF.

With the odd exception, fast Jets are not what Old Warden is all about however. What it does exceedingly well is provide an excellent venue to watch some extremely rare and old aircraft (indeed the oldest flying aircraft in the UK).

I've not seen the Harrier there myself but I have heard it was superb.

Hi all,

Encouraged to come to this site by a certain member from Seattle, I offer my first post - I hope I'm not transgressing any rules by posting a retrospective on a really pleasant but low key show that took place in the UK last weekend.

For those who don't know the venue, Old Warden is a small grass airfield (longest runway can't be more than about 2500 feet) with a cozy atmosphere and a nice curved crowdline that lends itself ideally to aircraft showing their topsides. The airfield is also home to the Shuttleworth Collection, a small but active museum which possesses a significant number of totally unique airworthy aircraft, many dating back to the pre-war years and even to the earliest days of aviation.

Last Sunday the 1st August was one of Old Warden's major shows of the year, the Military Pageant. I appologise for not posting all of the pictures directly here, but there's just too many and it will be too slow and just much of a faff!  Furthermore, I can offer only a little guidance on types as many of them I'm unsure of - if you go to the full page of images, you will certainly find a Spitfire, Hurricane, Anson, Skyraider, Avenger, Fennec, Chipmunk, Stork, Wasp, Boxkite, Triplane (Fokker and Avro), Hind, Ryan, Lysander, and a Cub in amongst the pictures, but the rest are less well know to me.

Thanks, and look forwards to contributing more here in the future, although my main interest will always be with the civil aviation thing!

Best,

Andy

Sunday was my first visit to Old Warden.....probably won't be my last Grin

Refreshing to go to a flying display where you can see the aircraft up close, and when they are in the air you can get pics of the topside! Enjoyed the day from beginning to end, personal favourites were the Chipmunk aerobatic display, the oh so shiney Hind, the wonderful Spitfire display and finally the 'Edwardians' being taken to the skies.

Chris

A selection of my pics from the day.
