My first C-17 shot with my new camera (Nikon D40, 55-200mm nikkor lens)!  Took off this morning around 11 AM EDT.  Taken at Pope AFB.

Palmdale Plant 42 at Sierra Hwy and Ave N with a new lens!  Dance

I thought the Canon 70-200 f/4 L was soft, then I realized that the newest version of Digital Photo Professional just wants the sharpness slider to be up around 6 instead of 3 as before. Very little over-sharpening halos until about 8, and nice sharp images (when motion blur is not present  Wink) at 5-6 with the sky-wing contrast being the limiting factor. Of course there is a little down-sizing halo going on here too.

It also adds chromatic aberration correction, which results in near perfect images (technically, if not artistically... Still working on that one  Wink)

I've also posted a shot of a C-130 in that thread. There were two of them and this C-17 doing touch and go's or full stop-takeoff again. Nice of them to give me some practice with my new lens! I caught 6 passes in about an hour. Plus a couple small jets that turned away too early for me to pick up with only 200mm.

Amazing how different a little processing can make the weather appear. These two shot were within about 15-30 min of each other with other images looking like a cloudless blue sky day.

Give me a break!  It was the first time I did that!  Well it was also the first time using that camera.  I didn't realized I hadn't shrunk all of them...my mistake!

Here are some tails from my last trip to Dover.

A couple more...

I do notice that the smaller I make the pictures, the less quality they are.  They get choppy looking, and start leaving out details.  I would assume that a good photo shop program would stop this, but I'm stuck with the basic microsoft photo editor at the moment.
