The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum has announced their Flyfest again this year. They will be flying all of their aircraft all day, including the Lancaster, B-25, Canso and Firefly. Hopefully the Lysander will be flying as well. Looks like some of Ed Russells aircraft will be there as well, as they are listing appearances by a Bf-109, Mustang and Hurricane. You can get more information at their website:

and click on the link on the front page.

With any luck maybe some aircraft that were scheduled for Ottawa will come to the museum, at least something good would come out of the cancelation.

Mike Potter's Corsair is supposed to be here, as well as Ed Russell's Me-109 and Hurricaine. Like I said before, with the cancellation of the Ottawa Airshow, and the fact that Michael Potter is friendly with the museum (we have visited him several times with the Firefly, B-25, Canso and Sea Fury, and he has visited us with his Mustang before and after repaint and Hurricaine) maybe he'll send some more out. Hey, I can hope, can't I! Grin I'll keep you updated on the rumours I hear around the museum, lol.

Last year I was at the CWH Flyfest for two days and I can tell you this is an excellent event to go even you are far from Hamilton, Ontario as I in Vancouver. There's a great spot for photographing the take-offs at the end of the main runway, close to the Hamilton airport Tim Hortons. But on the ramp offers opportunity to see low-altitude photo passes of many vintage aircraft.

Too bad this year I'm going to Thunder over Michgan and can't spend three weeks with my sister in Toronto.  Cool

This year's event will be different than other years, different in a good way. There will be more aircraft coming in than in other years, seems like there will be more flying as well. Also member rides will be taking place all day in the Beech 18 and DC-3, and if you buy a membership while there you can fly that day (usual disclaimer, weather and aircraft permitting). If you want something different you can upgrade your membership for a flight in the Tiger Moth, Chipmunk, Cornell, B-25 or PBY. Don't quote me, but I believe it's an extra $100 on top of the membership for the Tiger Moth, Chimpunk or Cornell, and an extra $300 on top of the membership for the B-25 or PBY. Again, don't quote me, but please, come to the museum, it will be fantastic, I can't wait.

Just a quick note, the CWH Flyfest is this weekend. On Saturday between 11:30 and 12:30 Ed Russell's Spitfire and Hurricaine will be arriving, as well as Mike Potter's Corsair and the Fighter Factory's P-51. Lots of flying through the day.

It was a bit disappointing that neither the advertised Russell Spitfire nor the Hurricane (which apparently was a substitute for the Russell Me 109) were flying on Sunday. It was nice to see the Lanc and the B-25, but a single pass of the P-51 and the Sea Fury was rather lame. It would be nice to be able to see the aircraft take-off and land, instead of only seeing them on an overhead pass. I remember the days when the CWH would put on airshows that you would look forward to all year, and I wonder why they stopped.  If St. Thomas and St. Catharines can host shows, surely Hamilton can put something on.

There are many people in Hamilton that would love to see an airshow come back, however it is not something that the museum can afford to put on itself. St Thomas and St Catharines are both smaller airports, which I assume don't have quite as much trouble having the airspace closed for two days. Keep your fingers crossed that the guy planning the airshow for next year is able to do it, I'd love to be involved in the comeback of the Hamilton Air Show.
