Haven't seen a dedicated subject devoted to these types before, so here it goes.

Photography has always been something I have wanted to get into for quite a while.  I had a Zenit EM that my father had given me years ago that got me into SLR photography.   I've also had the opportunity to play with digital point and shoots, and now I went ahead and bought the Nikon D70 to really get into it.  This was taken the first day, about 10 minutes from leaving the store.  The only thing I could figure out initially was to put it into auto mode and fire away, but came away with this shot (among others).

I'm still trying to play around with sizes and such, but the original unedited version was quite high quality.

I used to be with "it", but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't "it", and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

It'll happen to you!

Lake Hood at Anchorage is floatplane heaven.  This Ketchum Beaver splashdown was shot from the terrace of the Crazy Moose restaurant - how civilized, drink beer, shoot floater, eat salmon, shoot floater...

Well the only float planes I have ever seen were these beauties from the US Virgin Islands.  The airline is called Seaborne and they have 4 of these twin otters.  I shot all 4 of them.  The first time I've catalogued an entire airline....now if i could just get all those pesky Southwest planes... Wink

Enjoy!

Not  action shots, but the ultimate Floatplane - Macchi Castoldi MC72 ( Max speed 470.4mph) at the Italian National Air Museum. The brass bits are surface mounted radiators.

 Shocked

At the risk of sounding like Tyson, the MC72 looks pure sex, dunnit?  Wow ... even with the walls and ropes around it it looks like it's going 300 MPH.  Thanks for sharing, Mike.

-M.M.  (who likes Sagar's landing shot too ... but the Twotter is one ugly airplane!)

Another float photo scanned, 500 or so to go...

This is from the same location as the Beaver I posted last month, only there's a bit more of the touristy Victoria scenery in this shot.  That's the BC provincial legislature with the copper roof, and the wax museum (and former CP Empress steamship terminal) in front of it.  The Provincial Museum is behind the flagpole.  And the Empress Hotel is just out of the picture to the left.  www.hellobc.ca if you want more info, otherwise back to the planes....

Dang....Victoria is one of the prettiest cities in the world....First time we came into the harbor one of the Beavers was taking off and cut right across the bow of the ferry....Of course I was too stunned to shoot a photo.  Gotta go back!  Heck, Buchart Gardens can make even the worst of us love flowers!

Anything that is a cross between a plane and a boat is good in my book:
