This is Bill Hinchey the now retired crew chief of 87-0257 (lost over Iraq to a SAM on 19 Jan '91), visiting 'his' canopy, now at the Pima Air Museum.

This photo, by Dave Merriman - one of our A Shop Avionics specialists in Doha, Qatar, is almost without doubt the last shot ever taken of 257 as the aircraft pulls into the EOR inspection area, just before taking the runway on its ill-fated mission.

Here's the story of how the canopy came 'home': http://www.f-16.net/articles_article8.html

Got the chance (invited) to the restoration shop at Pima on Saturday. John gave us the chance to crawl up into the B-36 cockpit and the tail section of the plane. It was really great to meet all the fellow photographers out there and I hope they post some of their shots. The B-36 was shot from inside the restoration hanger. The other pictures are of some of the newly painted aircraft on display. The Mig-29 looks like the one I saw at Tydall AFB air show back in 2000.

was at the museum this past monday.  my last visit was 1992, so it's changed a lot!  brought my 10 year old boy who just was in heaven.  some of the heritage flight practice participants at DM were flying around that morning, so that was an extra treat.

from the restoration side of the fence...

I accept your conclusion.  Below is my photo of a MiG-29 on display at the 2006 Tyndall airshow.  The makeshift replacement canopy is the strongest clue.

Nice shots Jay.  The guppy looks like a tribal leader in an elaborate head piece.   Afro
