I've parked in the parking lot across the street when walking over to the spot with no problems but I don't stay long.  The only reason to go there anymore now is if there is something departing you are wanting to catch.  Otherwise there is a dirt pull off just to the South of the runway along the highway where you can pull up onto a little hill that overlooks the approach path to runway 35.  It's a good spot to catch arrivals.  This is the new "spot" where most everyone is now parking since they blocked off the old place.

good eye...I'm so used to that view that I didn't even look at the Ranger ramp in the background.  Fat Albert was at Alliance a couple of weeks ago.  Guess they're moving back and forth pretty frequently right now.

Huh  The pic of the 4 Spads at EOR on the 10th has me boggled.  The end jet, 479, closest of the line, is Brians (Maj Chamness) bird, and he definitely left with the others Monday. So i wonder whos he took, and who is in his.  Undecided  I know that other pilots fly other jets, but you would think each named jet would ahve gone with said pilot to the desert no?

I would think they would send jets based on reliability...i.e maybe they have more maintenance issues with certain jets and I would think they would want the best ones there in Iraq regardless of the name on the side...just a guess though.

But a very good guess Afro. If squadrons deploy, they pick the aircraft on when the aircraft need their next scheduled maintenance. Maintenance is planned, repairs aren't. Although some aircraft are more troublesome than others, in our air force they don't disqualify aircraft because they had a reputation of being less reliable than others (at least they didn't when my dad was still head of maintenance at 312). I am not aware where the USAF does their maintenance checks on aircraft which are deployed, the Dutch Air Force flies them back to the NL, but they don't need to cross the Atlantic to do so.

Thanks Brandon, if i can be out there Friday I will be.  And speaking of Friday here is what happened this past Friday,
this Black Knight declared an emergency right after the sun had gone below the horizon and made this arrested landing…
