I've got an iBook with iPhoto on it and just got a new 6 MPixel camera. Is there an easy way to reduce the size of the files so I can post some of my shots here on FenceCheck? Running them through Photoshop Elements 2.0 is within my abilities but it seems like a clunky way of doing it.

Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me. I'd like to post some stuff from the St. Louis County Fair this weekend - both my flight with the Red Barons and and stuff from the show, including shots of the hosing down of Jeff Stift, the pilot of the last Texan II demo.

Hi Rob,

Photoshop, even Elements, has an automated way of processing images in the same way. I do it all the time.
Look for Scripts under File. I am not exactly sure how it's called, because I have Elements 2 at work while I am at home now. You can define the desired size, filename to be used afterwards and folder to put them, etc. It works very fast.

I have PSE, what you want to do after you've edited your file is go File/Save for web. I usually make the quality around 80% and the image size 800x600

As long as the image stays below 150KB it's small enough to upload.

I think Rob may be asking whether there is someway he can avoid using Elements altogether, i.e., is there an app to which you can just submit a bunch of image files and have it generate reduced versions.

And there may be, but please ask yourself: would you really feel comfortable sharing even your better photos with the crowd here on Fencecheck without doing at least some individualized cropping and color/exposure correction?  For some, the answer appears to be yes, but if, like me, your answer would be no, then you'll need to use Elements or similar for that purpose anyway.

Real airplanes have two wings and round engines. Real cameras have manual focus and film.

Like I wrote, Elements will do just that. Just write a script to do so, you'll be amazed. No need to look for/buy/download/install/learn to use anything else.

www.showyourphotos.com has a re-sizer that I've found indispensable for posting here.

Sorry for the late reply, but in iPhoto, you would choose export and then pick an image size to export the file as. I choose 640 pixels wide and the height is usually in the mid 400's. This gives me a file size of around 200k which is perfect for posting.
