Just a quick question about cropping pictures ...

After I have taken a picture with my Fuji S5500 I sometimes crop the picture on the camera so it fills the frame a little more. The quality looks fairly good still. My question is when you crop the picture will this effect the final size when you take it to a shop to develop the pictures to proper pictures...? I now have a Raynox lens so am hoping to get a bit closer to the action so will not need to do this much. I s the only downside to resizing the picture on the camera the quality of the final prduct? or is there anything else to take into account?

Cheers,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm not familiar with your type of camera, so I'm afraid my advice may not help you very much.

However if you are merely ZOOMING to look at you photo, it won't be a problem. BUT if you are using a CROPPING tool, then I fear that the picture may be 'harmed forever'.

Perhaps it's best to leave the shots until you can edit them on a computer (and ALWAYS save a master copy somewhere safe before you even edit them).

If your memory card can handle it (use the biggest you can afford) then take all of your photographs on the Largest, and Highest Quality setting.  Then you can print out your favourite shot later, without concern over the poor quality of a small tiny JPEG file...

Best of luck for RIAT. Take plenty of memory cards, batteries, sunscreen, water, ear plugs, and an umbrella.

Regards, Mike.
