I know this question is going to sound stupid but I'm baffled.

I need to resize some wedding pictures to 4x6 for their proofs. Most of them are still 2000 x 3008 x 24Bpp

When I tried to resize them in Irfanview and just selected 4x6 inches, they looked far to small to print out. This being my first photo shoot I want these to come out right and not have to reprint them all.

If I just go into document size and change the image to 4x6 they will print out fine or should I resize them a little bigger to make sure?

I've always just uploaded  "my" photo's to Walmart.com and not really worried about it.

Your original files (2000x3008) will have slight cropping (8 pixels) when printing to 4x6 paper. I would not resize the files, but use the original to print the 4x6 proofs. If you have a fast means to upload the files, always use the originals. Just my $.02

I use ezprints.com They have a preview feature that I like when printing 8x10s, and losing 20% of my image. An 8x12 will retain the original format, but frames are not easy to find, although ezprints will frame a picture for you.

thanks Pierce and Gar for the PM Wink

I'll just bring in the originals and see what the store can do to print them.

What about the overall quality of the prints from these places?
I've used a couple of others (uploaded online), and were not too please with the results.
Who would you folks recommend?

I have used both Ofoto and Snapfish online for 4 x 6 prints. I am happy with the quality of Ofoto. They also have their coupon deals like 40% off from time to time that when I back up the dump truck and I load up on the prints.  Grin  Ofoto also allows you to use CVS drugstore to pick up your photo, saving time and shipping cost. Snapfish, their 4 x 6 seemed smaller print size than ofoto... they must use a different ruler  Roll Eyes  I have heard Costco does a pretty good job but it is on the other side of town for me, plus I don't have a membership.

ofoto and snapfish are similar in price. ezprints is a bit lower. costco can be the lowest.  walmart has 4x6 prints for as low as .12 each. I can't reccommend them as I have never used them. I am very pleased with ezprints. They ship quickly and the quality is high. ofoto is kodak.

wedding print proofing i wouldn't go larger than 3x2" any bigger and you run the risk of someone in the family owning a scanner and taking the 6x4" and duplicating them with ease.. i'd also make sure you had a complicated water mark on the image..

I have been happy with Walmart prints at 4x6, but have not tried anything larger through them. Costco prints have worked okay for us as well. I have done a couple of 16x20s through ofoto and have been pleased with those as well. I would also use the original size to print smaller formats as reducing them could cause you to have a quality you won't be happy with. We have used older, smaller scans that looked okay on the screen that were pixellated and awful when printed by any of the three above.

Decided to try and save some money and took a CD of images to Costco to make some Christmas Albums for our family. Not impressed at all.  Terrible colour reproduction, lack of sharpness...

Thought maybe the machine screwed up, so I took them back.  The guy said they looked fine to him, but they put them through again.  Turned out the same.

Took the same CD into our local London Drugs and the same photos turned out awesome.  I'm not sure if it was just a matter of our local Costco photolab having a bad day, but I'm hesitant to go back.

Just my 2 cents..

I used to be with "it", but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't "it", and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

It'll happen to you!

In fairness, I am sure that Walmart and Costco do fine for most people with snapsots, but we are probably a little more picky with our prints than most other people. When I want a good quality print of a reasonable size, I use ofoto or one of the local labs. If I am just looking for some snapshot prints, I use Walmart or Costco. Mr. Tomcat raises a good point though.

just saw that this thread was moved and thought I would post a new site I've gone with.

www.whcc.com/    White House Custom Color

I've gone with them for my shots I want printed and displayed. Their color is excellent, and they are very quick on delivery.

When you sign up you get (Five-5) 8x10 proof prints to make sure their color matches what you expect. Upload via FTP.

A friend here at work does his Wedding prints through them and suggested them, I highly recomment them as well.
