LAX
« on: March 16, 2005, 03:37:23 AM »

I stopped by the In n' Out Burger place on the right approach at LAX.  Now I'm no airliner fan, but this was way cool!  I haven't been to this spot in ovr 15 years and the first plane to buzz me was an A340.  Very nice!  The only awkward part is that it's right on Sepulveda and I could have sworn someone would have called the police upon seeing me pointing that 400 2.8 at the approaching aircraft.

Ok, had some questions...I have to file these images, and not being a big airline guy, I wasn't sure about some of the aircraft.

The first shot of the 777 has some text on the nose reading "TransPacific ETOPS Flight".  Is this a special aircraft or simply an airline boasting the 777's capability.  Which brings me two other questions...what's an ETOPS Flight, and what airline is this?

Next aircraft is the AWA coming in head on...anyone know the model of this aircraft?
The same question goes for the last pic of the sunset landing.  I can tell it's AWA and most likely an Airbus, just don't know what kind.

I know, lotsa questions...I'll try to stick to jets!  Thanks for the help.

whaaaaaaaaaa, Tyson shooting airliners?  Shocked Hold on let me check, wow hell has frozen over.  Grin  Oh wait that just the normal Minnesota winter.

ETOPS (Extended Twin-engine OPerationS) Basically boils down to rule that allows twin engine airliners to fly trans-ocean routes.

The 777 is China Southern Airlines

Hard to tell on AWA airbus from that angle, it could be an A320 or A319.

The AWA sunset shot is a Boeing 757.

The real question is did you have a double-double cheeseburgers w/ fries.  Smiley

Dude, you rock!  Honestly, if you can't tell the difference between a 319 and a 320, I don't think I have to worry too much about it.  At least it gives me something to call the plane by.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

And to answer your question...I was actually pretty bad in that I did park at In n' Out but didn't partake.  I was on my way home from El Centro and had dinner plans later that eve in Ventura.  Thought it'd make a great lil' stop.

It might help us identify them if you'd get a smaller lens and take a picture of the whole airplane for once!  Wink

The A319/A320/A321 series of planes are all about the same, they just get a bit longer as the numbers go up. Looking at the nose shot, it's not long enough to be an A321. My guess would be an A319, but as CV63 says, it could be a 320.

I have also heard this explained in easier-to-understand terms: Engines Turn Or People Swim.  Grin

Tyson, if it departed at 350pm then it's an A320...did you catch the tail number?  If it's 6xx then it's a 320, if 8xx then it's a 319.

Oops...I just realized that it's probably landing.  In that case, did it come in at 248pm?  If so, then it's still a 320.  If not, when the hell did it come in???  Embarrassed Cheesy
