Best Pictures of the 2009 Airshow Season

Incredible images everyone! Really great.

Hard to choose just a few of course, so I'll limit these to airshows, my real favorites are my gargantuan Shuttle pictures, but they just don't have any impact on the web. 

Still waiting to see if these were chosen to be finalists for AVWeek photo contest. That issue is due out in several weeks and has some incredibly tough competition.

First and Third are at the Warbird Fly-in at the Planes of Fame Valle, AZ location.
Second is at Thunder Over Michigan. I was in the scissor lift at just the right time!

Had a lot of fun this show season, got to shoot with old friends and made new ones. The weather wasn't great at every show but being with good friends made every trip rewarding.

Great photos everyone - keep them coming!

This year, I focused a lot on lighting. I love walking around and capturing aircraft on static display because I get to move around, so I have somewhat more control. The early morning opportunities paid off huge...at least I think so. My favourite photo of the year is a 6AM photo of Michael Goulian's Extra 330 sitting on the tarmac at Toronto City Centre Airport. The sun was just coming up and I took only two photos from a certain angle. The orange sky beaming off the green and red a/c was fantastic and I was lucky enough to get out and experience my first EARLY morning photo op - I hope for many more in the future
Another morning shoot allowed me to photograph the Golden Hawk F-86 Sabre at the Brantford Airshow. Early light LOVES gold!! The third is a photo from the Waterloo Airshow of Memphis Belle taxiing out under dramatic skies.

F-22 taking off at the Rockford Airshow.  Interesting note about that day, the F22 flew twice that day, once in the morning for a practice flight and again during the airshow.  Both performances were stopped due to a maintenance problem in flight.
