Jim Cheatham, president of Salinas-based Verticare Helicopters & Airplanes and head of the world's only civilian helicopter air show team, died of a sudden illness early Wednesday at his home. He was 67 years old.

This really saddens me. My daughter was fortunate enough to fly with Jim while at the Page/Lake Powell Airshow in 1995. They went out to visit the reservations in the area as ambassadors for the show. Always one to encourage kids, Jim allowed her some stick time in his copter and they had a great time. Here's a shot from a point & shoot when they were heading off.

He'll sure be missed.  Cry
