Another DC-8 into March, this time with some older engines.

From an air traffic controller's point of view, those older DC-8's, and 707's too, way outperformed the newer DC-10's and L-1011's. When working ORD departures in the 70's, you were careful to restrict those older jets to 250 knots climbing through 10,000 or they would run down the newer air carrier jets in front of them. Throw in a FLIB jet (freaking little itinerant bastard, except we didn't say freaking), one that couldn't accerlerate to 340 through 10, and an already crappy day (any day working ORD) got worse. Performance wise, the old technology jets were akin to cars of the 60's outperforming newer cars that had emission controls.

Travis gets an ATI DC-8 about once a week, usually coming from HNL.  These were taken Nov. 28, 2009.
