Fence Check was fortunate to have one of those F-14 crewmen-cum-photographers, CDR David “Bio” Baranek, USN (Ret.),
talk to us about his experiences and his photography

Even though, as one of the editors, I'm supposed to be impartial, I have to mention that I was tickled to see JPeGs of the same great photos I remember from
The Hook
when I was a plane-crazy, pimple-faced teenager. And forget
Top Gun
-- Bio's life-and-death world of Phoenix-laden F-14s intercepting IL-38s was
real
. Thanks for reminding us of those days, Dave.
Along with Bio, we need to thank André for doing the leg work on this one. Bravo Zulu to both of you.

Bio's book,
Topgun Days: Dogfighting, Cheating Death, and Hollywood Glory as One of America's Best Fighter Jocks
is now available at bookstores in the US, or internationally through Amazon and other fine e-tailers. To celebrate, we've pumped Dave's interview back to the top of the article list. Enjoy!
