I am glad to get to see the Great Falls airplanes posted here.  I had a few overnight trips there but we always arrived late at night and left early in the morning.

Found this outside of the Tri County airport in Woodland N.C.  It's seen better days.

Found this one at a small airport in Missouri.  It looks like she has seen better days.

Nice catch Afro. It's an F-105B, serial 57-5819. The Thunderbirds did fly the F-105B, but this one wasn't one of them.

Apparently this one is being or has been restored recently. Hopefully they manage to paint it in the proper T-bird scheme Wink.

Mickey,

Thank you for the information and the link to the newspaper article.  I did some more research after your feedback and found that she is repaired and repainted - see photo below.  I'll see if I can get up there soon and see how she looks on guard again.  Click here for a photo by the company who actually did the painting.

Thanks David. It looks better in more appropriate camo Afro. Looking forward to your pictures!

Mickey

PS: Since it isn't your own picture, I have taken the liberty of modifying your post so there is link to it, instead of displaying the picture itself through hotlinking. Hope you don't mind Smiley.

Mickey,

Thanks for the help in the hot link.  I am sure that this is the more appropriate way of doing it.  I know just enough to get myself in trouble sometimes.   Shocked

I am going to try to get up there tomorrow.  Oh yeah - Road trip!

I was briefly stationed at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base in the 70's with these guys. Always good to see a Thud. This one on duty at Langley:

Stumbled across this F-89 sitting in the weeds at Helena Regional Airport in Helena, MT. Was hoping for a shot of the EC-121 they have there but it was surrounded by buildings  Cry

That looks to be in pretty good shape, wow!  Hope someone will take good care of it, must be a pretty rare specimen, I think.

I think it belongs to the University of Montana School of Tech in Helena. I was in Helena for a job interview and was made one hell of an offer so i might get a chance to dig up more information on it in the future. I also saw the only remaining XA2D-1 Skyshark At Pacific Fighters in Idaho Falls but could not get a shot due to tall fences and bad backlighting Head Against Wall Head Against Wall

Yeah the Skyshark use to be out at Chino when Pacific was still there.  Interesting looking plane.  I wonder if they are restoring for flight or static?
