I see corrosion in several spots.  Not much of the tail fin is visible.  The horizontal stabilator is modified with the slots incorporated from the F-4J, but this was installed on all but the first F-4E.  The right nozzle looks to be (barely) attached with a rod that disapears into the engine bay.   I give up!  What is wrong or missing?
The Left one is on the right and vice versa?

Phantomphan wins!!  they have the left stab on the right side and right on the left side - when I first saw it it jsut struck me as one of those "duh" moves - something that I would do on a model airplane  Roll Eyes

Not so fast, I don't think so. All the photos I have access to look the same way. I know it looks like the leading edge is upside down, but it is that way in all my photos. Plus I think it would be hard to remount it wrong, since you would have to change the mounting attachment structure.

Yeah, I think the horizontal stabs are correctly positioned, nothing wrong with them...

Funny, never thought about it, but now you mention it I can see why you would think they would be upside down.  Not sure about the aerodynamic reasons for this configuration.

It is correct. The stabilator on the F4 was designed to have its aerodynamic force act downward around the lateral axis. Its just
more apparent on the slotted stabs because it `looks` upside down. Even on unslotted stabs though you can make out that
the chamber on the forward half appears slightly concave rather than convex.
It would also be nearly impossible to swap left and right sides because it is all one assembly, with one common pivot point and
only one actuator attachment. The center of pivot can be seen as the fastener in the center of the wiper plate, which is the
metal panel above the middle of the stab with the 2 curved retainer plates. The panel rotates with the stab, its screw actually
into the center of the hinge pin.

Brought back some happy memories of my time on these.

Needed to clear my head, so I took a drive out to Grumman Memorial Park in Calverton, NY.

A-7 Corsair, A-10 Warthog and F-105 Thunderchief from the Flying Tiger Park inside what used to be England AFB, Alexandria, LA.  Also at the site are a F-86 Sabre and F-84 Thunderjet.

I know it's not military, and I'm not sure if it qualifies as a wreak or a relic, or perhaps both now!

Small impression of what can be found in Belgium at small airfields and roundabouts or just along the road.
