It's more than luck.  You are steady like a human tripod.  After shooting right next to you shooting the Collings Foundation aircraft and seeing my shots vs what you posted , I could clearly see that luck had little to do with it.

C-130 doing touch and go's at Palmdale Plant 42 couple days ago.

1/100 sec with tripod acting as monopod, no image stabilization on lens.

Monopod/tripod...handheld is the way to go!!   whip   Afro

Nice angle on the C-130, and great prop blur, a full arc!

I find I'm too shaky to have any hope of getting a good shot handheld, but I do find it limiting when they go flying by overhead or just ripping past as in an airshow.

I guess I'll just have to keep taking pictures until I'm not so excited by them.  Grin
