So I am leaning towards the Home Depot area, if I make it.

FK6065, Hope you're OK and can make it.  I'll try not to fall off my 6 foot ladder!   Grin  The grassy knoll by the Airport Plaza sign at the corner of 110 just 50 feet north of the end of 14 will give you shots like this.

That looks like a great perspective for the final landing of the mighty F-14.  I hope it turns out well!
Chris,

ScottyDemco will be there too.  I've already got a ton of side view shots of Tomcatter 101 from her last visit so I'm going to go for the end.  I would have to guess she'll come in from 32 like they did the last time and aside from the media flights, the way the Blue Angels landed during the Jones Beach Airshow.   At time of arrival the sun will be behind you facing the the end of the runway.  If you bring a ladder or stand on the roof of your truck this is what your view will be from the end of 32.

I used to be with "it", but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't "it", and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

It'll happen to you!

Hey everyone...  New to the board.

Thought I would post this email I received from someone at Grumman

F-14 Tomcat comes home to Long Island tomorrow

Get set to watch the skies tomorrow morning for a once-familiar sight: the F-14 Tomcat.

The U.S. Navy’s last F-14 Tomcat will return to Long Island – where it was built and where it will be enshrined.  The Navy is permanently loaning the aircraft to our Retiree Club.

This Tomcat - the next-to-last produced by the company - will fly from Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, and land at the American Air Power Museum in Farmingdale. In the process it will make a final fly-by over the Bethpage complex. After standard demilitarization, the F-14 will remain at the museum until next year, when the Bethpage display site is completed. Watch Friday Fast Facts for more information.

The F-14’s arrival at Republic Airport is set for approximately 11 a.m., so it will cross the Bethpage complex several minutes earlier. Sector Communications will issue an email broadcast once we learn of the “wheels up” in Oceana, and Security will make a broadcast over the loudspeakers.

Please note: The museum arrival ceremonies are free of charge to employees and members of the Retiree Club. An ID badge or Club membership document will be required.  Guests will have to pay the standard admission fee. In addition, this is not a company event: If you want to attend you’ll need to use vacation time to attend during working hours.

Did anyone consider being over at the American Air Power Museum since that's where she will end up??

I was up in the old tower for the last visit, but they only flew by once... I have an opportunity to be over by the AAPM.. but not sure if I want to take it.

What I'm thinking is.... if she comes in on 32 or 14, the ladning point might be a little out of reach from the museum.

Any ideas on my theory???

Looking forward to tomorrow!!!!

MORS,
Thanks for the photos and info. In June I was set up on the side of the runway also,
so I think I'll take your suggestion and set up by you at the start of Runway 32 this time.
I'll see you there in my Blue Blazer.  Afro

Dan N,
I guess it all depends on what you want to see  ...
If you want a good shot of the last F-14 flying right over you I'd set up
at the start of Runway 32. If you want great shots as the pilots get out
the plane then you should probably set up by the American Airpower Museum.

FK6065,
Sorry to hear about your fall, and I hope you can still make it to see the F-14 arrival.
Oh, and if you do make it, you better just stay off any LADDERS !!  Wink

See you guys in the morning !!

F110-GE-400 Goodness

Looking at Dans photo of the F-110 engine all the tubing and lines are in remarkablely similar locations to the TF-30 P 414 in the a models.
There are a few exceptions but only a few.

Tomcat in a box(es).... Radar, Cockpit, Machine Guns... anything the Iranians want are in those boxes.. btw incase anyone ever wondered what the actual afterburner looks like, check out the bottom photo. The de-mil team took almost everything off the tomcat, if they could have taken the wings off they would have done that too... really sad, but oh well.

They will be in San Diego Next week to gut out Felix 102

A few more of Felix 102 before it is gutted out.  The crew comming to gut out Felix 102 had a big box delivered to SDACM's Resteration Hanger today. maybe more on the way.  I'll try to get photos of the demilling and post a few here.

First two are autographers.

Third are spots of hydraulic fluid dripping from the aircraft.

ARGGHH!!! This is the golden question.

If they are planning a few passes, then I could kill two birds with one stone by being at the museum, provided she flys low enough. I guess I'll play it by ear in the morning.

I'm in a blue Trailblazer... you'll know I'm a photographer from my license plates...
