Finally got around to finishing my prints and such, and here are 2 featuring my favorite of the showbirds from VF-31.

françoise, here's the bit from the article with the names you need,

"This left just three F-14Ds on the ship to depart, with aircraft 112- flown by Lt. Blake Coleman and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Cmdr. Dave Lauderbaugh - given the historic honour of being the final ever Tomcat to launch with...blah...blah...blah"

Hope that helps,  Smiley

No but I have brought it to the attention of the Tomcat Sunset Committee before.

It's only two days away from the final flight to where Tomcats were born.  Can you believe this bird no longer fly after 10/4?

Tomcat in a box(es).... Radar, Cockpit, Machine Guns... anything the Iranians want are in those boxes.. btw incase anyone ever wondered what the actual afterburner looks like, check out the bottom photo. The de-mil team took almost everything off the tomcat, if they could have taken the wings off they would have done that too... really sad, but oh well.

Dan,

Aren't those just the 50" extensions tubes since the GE engine was short? Is the flame holder at the other end or is it on another section of the engine not showing?

Anyone heading out to Republic Airport tomorrow should be there by 11:00 am at the latest.  That's all I can say.  Traffic and parking around the perimiter fence on New Highway is going to be out of control!

MORS,

Do you know where will you be setting up yet ?  On New Highway at the start of Runway 32 or on the side of it possibly ??
Anyway, hope to meet up with you and some other Fencecheckers who will be there also.

Just heard from the VF-31 PAO that the estimated Oceana departure time is "around 10:00am." Let's go get it!  Afro

Yes where to set up in the fog on Wednesday.  Yes the local forecast calls for patchy fog.  The big question is where they will land.  The Blue Angels and the F-14's in June landed on 32 off New Highway then taxied the entire length of the field for everyone to see.

So to set up on New Highway at either the base of 31 or 1 you won't see too much because of the trees that separate the airport from the Southern State Pkwy.

Setting up on New Highway between by the cemetary and the airport fence line south of the American Air Power Museum will give you the best views of 1 and 32.

At the other end 14 & 19 are afforded great views of approach and some landing from the Home Depot parking lot off Rt. 110, but terrible views of landing on 1 and 32 especially if it's foggy.  In May and June Blue Angel 7 and Fat Albert used 14 for their landings and as I said, right over your head.

So I am leaning towards the Home Depot area, if I make it.

Sorry for the long post but this is kind of funny.  Yesterday I am trimming trees for my parents and fall 15 feet from the ladder, ambulance ride to the hospital.  So I am lying in the emergency room and the Dr. tells me she thinks I may have some internal bleeding and may have to admit me.  So I say for how long?  And she replies "Don't worry I'm sure your family, job will be OK we just need to get you better."  And I say, "Yeah, my wife and kids will be fine and I'm not worried about work or myself I'm worried about missing the Tomcat."  She just looked at me funny.  Guess she's not into Naval Aviation. LOL.

Fortunately I am home, very banged up and hopefully will be dragging myself to Farmingdale as soon as my wife leaves for work.

Chris,

ScottyDemco will be there too.  I've already got a ton of side view shots of Tomcatter 101 from her last visit so I'm going to go for the end.  I would have to guess she'll come in from 32 like they did the last time and aside from the media flights, the way the Blue Angels landed during the Jones Beach Airshow.   At time of arrival the sun will be behind you facing the the end of the runway.  If you bring a ladder or stand on the roof of your truck this is what your view will be from the end of 32.
