On static display was an Air Force Boeing C-40C. This type of plane is not usually seen as a static display at Atlanta area air shows, so I found some time on early Sunday morning to visit it and talk with the pilot, USAF Lt. Col. Rob Witzel, about the plane.
Plane number 50730 is a Boeing Business Jet or 737-700 with certain upgrades and modifications. It has the flight deck from a 737-800, as well as the higher capacity engines. The plane is also outfitted with four extended range fuel tanks.
According to Lt. Col. Witzel, the plane is mainly used to fly members of Congress, high ranking government department heads, and also high ranking military officers. The plane has all "First Class" seating and can fly 40 passengers and up to 11 crew. It has a conference room on board as well as advanced communications to keep the passengers in touch while in flight.
