Air Show Photo Seminar and Contest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 5, 2008

MEDIA CONTACT: Tina Noel, 317.709.3103 - Kerrie Henderson, 317.813.0180

AUG. 9 ROBERTS SEMINAR WILL TEACH YOU THE ART OF PHOTOGRAPHING AIRPLANES; INDIANAPOLIS AIR SHOW PHOTO CONTEST WILL PUT YOUR NEW SKILLS TO THE TEST

(Indianapolis, Ind.) – If you’ve ever tried to photograph the high-flying performers at the Indianapolis Air Show, you know it’s no piece of cake. Fortunately, and just in time to prepare for the Aug. 22-24 show and its annual photo contest, help is on the horizon.

Indianapolis’ legendary Roberts Imaging is teaming up with the Air Show’s photo committee this Saturday, Aug. 9, for a seminar entitled “Photographing Airplanes and Air Shows.” Bob Burns, a published photographer who has been taking pictures of airplanes for more than 50 years, will lead the instruction.

From 9 until 11 a.m., at the 21st St. and Shadeland Ave. Holiday Inn, participants will learn the “ins and outs” of shooting photos of both stationary and moving airplanes. From 12:45 until 3:30 p.m., the seminar will move to Mt. Comfort Airport, home of the Indianapolis Air Show. There, if the weather cooperates, participants will have the opportunity to take pictures of aircraft on the ground and in motion.

The Air Show’s annual photo contest will be the perfect chance to put those newfound photography skills to the test. Open to anyone who wants to submit a photo taken during the Aug. 22-24 event, prizes include a $600 digital SLR provided by Sony and camera bags provided by Lowepro.

The cost of the Roberts seminar is $39.97 per person. Similar to the Air Show, proceeds from the event go to children’s charities through the Central Indiana Community Foundation. To register, please call 317.636.5544. For more information, go to www.robertsimaging.com/photoair.jsp.

For more information on the Air Show’s FREE photo contest, check out www.indyairshow.com/events/photo-contest

Headliners for the 12th annual Indianapolis Air Show are the U.S. Air Force’s F-22A Raptors and the U.S. Army’s parachute team, the Golden Knights. You won’t want to miss their performances, not to mention the thrills and chills provided by civilian aerobatic pilots, pyrotechnicians, hot air balloons and wing walkers. On the ground, you’ll find classic cars, celebrities, and military exhibits, including the NASA Space Camp.

Discounted tickets are available now by going to www.indyairshow.com, or you can buy them in-person at any Marsh, O’Malia’s or United Package Liquors stores. Active U.S. military personnel will be able to attend the Air Show for FREE with current military identification.

For anyone going, there is some interesting news, on ASB Rob Reider announced that the F-22 will be flying two demos per day, dont know if that means two Heritages or not.  I called the Airshow and they confirmed it as well.  Also, this is from a T-33 pilot Paul keppeler

Quote
Looks like a great warbird lineup besides F-22, F-16, and Hornet demo. Aerobatic routine by a Wildcat and Sea Fury, flybys with F-100 Super Sabre, P-47, P-51, Yaks, L-39s, T-33, Avenger, Yak 9, T-28 and more. See ya there.

Not sure on the F-16,im *assuming* yes i said assume, that if so, it would be flybys from Ft wayne f-16's.

Seems very interesting to me, im going sunday and ill see some of you there.

Looks like you guys will also be getting some fly bys by Dean Cutshall in the F-100 on Saturday as well. I'm already kicking myself for not being able to make this one.

Is the F-22 staging out of Mt. Comfort?

The last time I attended this airshow, several of the high performance aircraft flew in from other airports.  For example, the Starfighters flew out of Indianapolis (as did the Blue Angles).  Aircraft on static display included multiple AV8s and A10s but no F15s.

Just wondering.  This might be my only opportunity to catch the F22 demo this year...............

Thanks!  I think you're right about the F18s.  And didn't Indy have an F117 one year that staged out of Mt. Comfort?  I think they set up an arresting cable just for that one aircraft.

Hello Everyone,

Greetings.  Just joined FC, as was recommended my Liza.  I had a great time at the Airshow, got a bit crispy Head Against Wall, but otherwise doing well.  The performances were stellar.  It was a bit hazy, but with a light wind, it was not too bad.  Once I find my way around the site, I will share some images.

Thanks,

James
