ORIGINAL POST - Anyone have any intel on when the Press Briefing will be held? I've been calling and e-mailing the PA office - no response yet.

Never mind, I just got the notice from the PAO.  Cool

I realize it depends on which way the wind is blowing, but historically speaking, does anyone know if they take off towards the ocean?  Sorry, i'm not familiar with this base.

The main runway runs roughly 160-340 on the compass rose, so if the take-off is on runway 16, then you'll see them depart over the bay. As for historical, well you got it right the first time. Prevailing wind direction will determine active runway in use.

they've even switched runways during the Friday practice and I've noticed that the main demo's don't always take off into the wind.

Another fabulous Media Day despite the late opening. It was nice meeting everyone there, especially Dave OB and the other gents on the scissor lift - sorry I didn't get your names, hope to run into you again the rest of the weekend. Some initial takes:

Anyone notice how far they were keeping boats off shore? Hoping the 100-400 will do the job.

We saw trawlers and sailboats offshore from the scissor lift, but you're definitely a bit of a ways off from the main runway - I would say probably not - even a 500mm will be too short.
