Here's the rest of the photos from the Ariforce Association Airshow at Carswell AFB in March of 1966.

From what I understand it was a once in a lifetime type of show.
Here's what another guy that was at the show told me.
The USAF unbolted everything for that show...they had two of almost every aircraft type in their inventory.

The air show portion included a fly-by of the first of the same type plane with everytihing hanging...as slow as the plane could go...and as the plane was near the middle of its fly-by, another of the same type plane came from behind just under Mach 1.

F-86, F-89. F-94, F100, F-101, F102, F-104, F-106...

The U-2 flew real slow then in mid-runway, up came the plane into vertical flight and continued straight up and continued until I could no longer see it.

The YF-12 had its canopy open and a guy in the cockpit telling each of us..."no photos"... I obeyed.

The B-57F had all its sensitive stuff removed from the cockpit...

Thunderbirds were flying F-100s
. Thanks Dave!

Early F-111  Pre-production model!

Look at this lineup!

These are the only T-Birds shots he had...

and the U-2 flight..

How about something fast and sexy!?

Again thanks to John Williams for opportunity to scan these for him and the permission to post them!

Ztex,

now that is what I call Airshow.

Too bad my folks started thinking about having kids ten years later.  Angry

Wow, what I find pretty amazing is that they had all those planes just sitting out there and everybody was able to crawl all over them.  And that at the hight of the cold war!

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing.

FWIW, I think the line may have been ``At least I still have my motor skills.``  But it was all kinda fuzzy... - M.M. aka Rainman

ya know. . I grew up a stones throw from the main gate of this place. (Carswell AFB).   And living next to it you really never gave it any thought how cool all that stuff was. . .I mean it is something that was there everyday.

I guess I took it for granted. And now, 40 years later, all this stuff is gone or sitting in some desert in Arizona falling apart.  Someday we'll say "Oh my gosh!   look!   an F-18 Hornet!"

I love these shots. . . .and to think there is some 7 year old kid (me) out there on the ramp not appreciating what he's seeing.

So Keith, were you at this show?

I sure wish more folks would open up their collections to us...there must be a bunch of great stuff out there to see.

Thanks

Very nice F-111 and the B-58 hustler,

quite mind boggling how secure the world is around aircraft these days

Absolutely awesome pics!  What a lineup of nearly every one of my favorite aircraft!!!!!  Drool Drool Drool Drool Drool
I can only imagine what it was like to see the B-58's at Carswell, let alone an XB-70 visit!!!  I can remember the days of the B-52, F-4's of course and even the Thud's when I was real young.  Ahhhh miss those days!!!
Thank you for sharing them!
