Must be about the only airworthy P-51 in the US that won't be in Ohio that weekend!

Yea, and it looks like mostly all of the west coast heritage pilots will be in Ohio - Bill Anders, Chuck Hall & Steve Hinton.

Ok, first timer to Salinas.  If you were to get box seats or grandstand seating?  Where would you choose?

I know of at least a handful that aren't planning to go, and a museum that owns three that haven't been invited. With a little bit of support they could probably get all three back in the air in a month or two.

The In Laws are getting me box tickets. Of the 4 colored areas which one would be the best. Is Blue Show center?

I'm a big fan of the grandstands/bleachers, so I would recommend those.

Whether or not you're up there, in general you probably want to be as far to the right as you can. The sun sets to the right (especially on Friday!), and there are some cool hills to the left, so for both those reasons you want to be looking left most of the time, if you can. Also, some aircraft take off diagonally towards the crowd (tangentially) and to the right, so when that happens, you're in a good place for takeoffs. Definitely the place to be for departures.

Friday is an evening show. They'll fly airplanes that have lights on them, bright afterburners, or pyrotechnics (shooting flares or fireworks), like at Miramar and Oceana. Let's cross our fingers for a Fat Albert rocket-assisted takeoff at dusk, those are awesome!
